Reporter World provides a variety of safety equipment, identification products, specialized high-visibility clothing, pertinent news, product reviews, book reviews and useful links specifically for reporters, writers, assignment editors, news correspondents, journalists, ENG crews, photographers, production staff, directors, segment producers, media security personnel, and freelancers: in short, anyone who is part of the news gathering, information reporting, or documentary film industries.
Experienced field reporters know that identification as Press or Media can enable them to cross police lines easier, reach news scenes faster, and even save them from possible violence or serious injury in unpredictable situations. For maximum safety and identification in a crowd, riot, or other tense situations, these clothing products offer high-visibility, one-word identification of your Press or Media status.
T-shirts can be worn concealed under traditional clothing in situations where you may not want to identify yourself immediately. When risk level increases, you can remove your outer clothing exposing the PRESS, MEDIA, or NEWS designation. Conversely, hats and sweatshirts can be worn until removal is warranted.
Each product in this area is available in over a dozen languages including the very popular English, French Spanish, German, and Italian options. We also offer more exotic languages such as Afrikaans, Greek, Indonesian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese. Plus, we will soon be offering items in Japanese, Chinese (traditional and simplified), Korean, and others. Simply click on the language of your choice from the list on the left.
There are times when single-language identification is not enough, and dual or combination identification for bilingual situations is necessary or beneficial. Wherever possible we have also included dual-language options for popular combinations such as English/Spanish, English/German, English/French, English/Italian and many others.
Simply click on the hyperlink(s) corresponding to the language(s) of your choice to view the full range of items. Each design or identification pictured on a baseball cap is used for representional purposes only. Other items -- such as our very popular T-Shirts (traditional men's and fitted women's), sweatshirts, long-sleeve Ts, tote bags (and more), are available in each design. Film production personnel will find suitable clothing in our Extras section.
Customization of clothing is also an option, especially for news gathering organizations that do not have their own logos or identification clothing or for summer interns, freelancers, and other temporary employees. There is a nominal customization fee (based on the complexity of your artwork) and a low, six-item minimum. If customized products are of interest to you, please click here (or on the "Customized" button) to read how easy it is to customize products for your organization. To see a complete list of all customizable products, check out our own Reporter World page where we showcase a wide variety of items.
Some reporters wear body armor in particularly dangerous situations, lawless areas or war-torn regions. Many items in this section can be used to conceal the use of body armor and therefore provide further protection. If you wish to cover body armor, please order shirts and vests at least two sizes larger than usual.
Important safety note:
Things change rapidly in the field. Unexpected dangers can flare up quickly and involve deadly results. If you are not familiar with the risks involved in visiting and working in a specific area, you are strongly urged to check with your appropriate government agency (often, the US Department of State) using our Useful Links pages -- or with trusted individuals already in-country using e-mail or telephone. Please read our Terms of Service page for limitations and conditions related to these products.
Please note that in many regions around the world, foreign journalists are treated far better than are local writers and reporters. Several documented cases exist where identification of foreign press status has prevented serious injury or death to reporters and correspondents. Thus, using English language identification (or combination local and English language identification) may be safer in some situations than using local-language only identification.
